So I haven't been on here much, I have got my internet up and running again and I have moved places. I really like where I am living now. I moved on Valentine's Day so this update will actually be in two halves, stuff I brought at my last place (and the last time I talk about the horribleness of that) and the stuff I brought at the shining super new home, hopefully after this it will turn into the normal 2 week updates, so here goes...
In Your Dreams - the last eBay purchase of my old place. I got this mainly because I've been crushing on Parminder Nagra for the past 9 years (I saw Bend It Like Beckham in 2003), some moments of this movie are bright while others feel limp but Parminder looks ravishing...
Mad Detective
The Evening Star - a rather unnecessary sequel to Terms Of Endearment which as nothing matching the emotional wallop the original gives you.
The Parallax View
Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?
Against All Odds
Lilith
20,000 Leagues Under The Sea
Bullitt
How To Steal A Million
Jason and The Argonauts
Robin and Marian
The Butterfly Effect - I'm a sucker for time travel stories and I like it a lot but it's obviously flawed. I think a lot of flak this film got was because of the casting of Ashton Kutcher, who is more then OK here. Plotholes aside the film works for me.
Robin Hood - Men In Tights - A lesser Mel Brooks movie is still a watchable Mel Brooks movie.
The Flintstones - I remember seeing this in 1994 at a small Welsh cinema (in the only cinema for miles) with a dodgy sound system, but it was a film I really wanted to see at the time. I remember getting The Flintstones popcorn packets, and even enjoying the B-52s rendition of theme (where they renamed themselves BC-52s)
WWE New Year's Revolution 2005 - this PPV had a good story going involving whether Batista would turn on Triple H in the elimination chamber. It's odd how two of the early matches are marred by injuries (Eugene and Trish get injured in their matches, which cut them both short).
Predator 2
Cocoon
Fearless / Unleashed
Friends Season 10 - The final season of Friends is a decent season but I just don't like how it ends, getting Ross and Rachel back together just feels forced.
Lucky Seven - me and my brother owned this on video back in the early 90s on video... or half of it anyway - it cut off halfway through - so the film was something of a legend between me and my brother for years until a few years back when I found it on DVD - and the good news is we both finally so the end of this elusive film some 17 years later, he ended up with that DVD and this is the replacement, cause I couldn't bare to not have it in my collection.
Roots - 30th Anniversary Edition
The Specialist
McCabe and Mrs. Miller
Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid
Bedtime Stories - this film could have been better, a lot more could have been done with the idea of the kids bedtime stories coming true but it never sparkles.
The Benchwarmers - this is the weakest of the Happy Madison films I have seen so far.
Dreamgirls - while some moments shine it just wasn't as good as I wanted to be, some moments even felt like I'd seen in plenty of films before. Jennifer Hudson, who got a lot of plaudits was not bad but playing a bit of a caricature.
I Love You Phillip Morris - Jim Carrey doing something different seems to meet with the audience staying away, I really dug this movie.
Jackboots On Whitehall - it's sort of like Team America but is just not as agressive and not as good.
The Fighter
Taking Care Of Business - a film I remember enjoying as a youngster and it stills hold to me today.
Eddie Murphy - Delirious
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1932 / 1941)
The Hole (2001) - Thora Birch and a young Keira Knightley are among those who go into an underground bunker (the hole of the title) with bad consequences.
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - fluffy fun with Sarah Jessica Parker, Helen Hunt and (in a lesser role) Shannen Doherty before they went on to bigger roles
Amores Perros
The Last Unicorn
The Man Who Wasn't There
An Education
And now here is the stuff I've got since the 14th and all that...
Bronson
Love In The Afternoon
Breaking Away
Good Times
Sibling Rivalry - this is something I saw in the early 90s and I likely watched it back then because Scott Bakula was on Quantum Leap, Bill Pullman was in Spaceballs, Kirstie Alley was in the Look Who's Talking films and Carrie Fisher was well Princess Leia, I'm surprised my parents let me watched this because of the sexual nature (more the subject then scenes) of the film.
Firestarter
The Odd Couple
Malta Story
Welcome Home Roxy Carmichael
Doctor Who - Resurrection Of The Daleks
Battlestar Galactica - The Movie
Battlestar Galactica - The Complete Epic Series
Friday Nights Lights Season 1 - I'd heard good stuff about this series and I've really liked what I've watched of it so far, I think it's done better then any other film or television show I've seen what sort of passion is behind American football in it's homeland.
Gilmore Girls Season 5 - Lauren Graham/Alexis Bledel is one of my favourite TV Mother/Daughter combos, not that I've got a list or anything.
Joey Season 1 - After 10 years on Friends, Joey left his pals behind for his own spin-off and try his luck in Hollywood. It's fairly likeable stuff and Friends had started to where it's welcome out, and this is a good change.
The Animal
The Animal
The Hot Chick - Rob Schneider's most likeable starring role in my opinion.
A Clockwork Orange
The American
Samurai I - Criterion Collection
Alias Season 4
Happy Campers - uneven despite some good little moments here and there, Jaime King was one of the best things about it
BaadAsssss Cinema - I just wish it was a bit longer (it comes in at less then an hour) and because of that it only just feels like it scratches the surface of the Blaxploitation genre, maybe there is a reason they couldn't get interviews with people like Richard Roundtree, there's people not interviewed who I would have thought have been fairly accessible.
Lips Of Blood
Ne Sex Please, We're British
Gods and Monsters
