DVD Update (16/12/2012 - 29/12/2012)

Later then usual because the Holiday season made me lose track of time, but anyway let's get on with it -

Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman Volume 1 - This was a cheap still in it's plastic eBay buy and is a spoof of soap operas, which predates Soap by a couple of years without quite being as good. Enjoyable though and captures American soaps quite good.

Christmas In Connecticut (1992) - Arnold Schwarzenegger stood behind the camera for his first directorial effort back in 1992 (he did direct an episode of Tales From The Crypt earlier though).

Armageddon - Criterion Collection - At the very least most of the time Michael Bay's film might be lacking in story or realism and can be over-sentimental but they are often very exciting which are usually cast with a lot of fun actors..

The Box
Rookie Of The Year
Basket Case 2
Basket Case 3
Smoke
Porky's II - The Next Day

Sabrina The Teenage Witch Season 5 - This, in the first of her year series Sabrina is joined by a bunch of new cast members who watching on DVD (rather then one a day or week like on TV) have the cast gelling pretty well quickly, the best new addition is Soleil Moon Frye as Roxy, not as good as the Valerie years (seasons 2&3 BTW) but enjoyable.

The Glass House (1972)
Rhod Gilbert and The Cat That Looked Like Nicholas Lyndhurst
Bo' Selecta Series 3
Public Enemies
King Kong (1976)
Brokeback Mountain
Toys
Finding Neverland
976 Evil
Aliens vs Predator - Requiem
Road To Bali

Network - One of them films that still is as relevant today as it was in the 70s, perhaps more-so now. A film that actually features one of my favourite lines/moments commeted to celluloid - "...I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!" if you didn't know what I was on about.

Moon 44
Jonah Hex
Evolution
Spider-Man - The New Animated Series
Rollercoaster
Heartbreakers
Scooby-Doo Meets Batman
Micki & Maude/Hanky Panky/There's A Girl In My Soup/Modern Romance
The Crazysitter
Big Fish
The Witches Of Eastwick
A Family Thing
What A Carve Up
The Wrong Arm Of The Law
Nurse On Wheels
Victim
Twilight Zone - The Movie
No Strings Attached
Hugo

DVD Update (02/12/2012 - 15/12/2012)

Hi and welcome to the latest DVD update, let's get straight into this with another long update...

The Dark Knight Rises - The update starts with a bang, with a film which I know divided some people's opinion's on but it was all I wanted from a Batman film. On both viewings (one cinema, one home) I was gripped by what I saw.

Escape From L.A. - As a teenager I didn't mind this movie, sure it wasn't in the same league as Escape From New York but I enjoyed it - the surf scene was still naff to me though - I am curious to see it again after a long absence.

Rush
Dances With Wolves
Elvis - That's The Way It Is

Halloween Resurrection - Busta Rhymes using Kung Fu on Michael Myers probably as to be the low point for this franchise (including the Rob Zombie movies)

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

While You Were Sleeping - Sweet romantic comedy that cemented to me back when I first saw it that Sandra Bullock had a much more engaging and likable presence then Meg Ryan.

The Break Up/Friends With Money/Along Came Polly - Three movies that are pretty average with Jennifer Aniston being the connection between the three movies (though it doesn't say that on the cover) but I was pushing to get an extra title at the time and this counted as one so it was cheaper then the rest.

Ocean's Twelve - Everything's going on enjoyable enough though not as good as Eleven, until it's pointed out Tess looks the double of Julia Roberts - yes Tess does look the double of Julia Roberts because she is in fact played by Julia Roberts - but if she looked so much like Julia Roberts why did it take a movie and a half for anybody to point this out (the real Bruce Willis even confuses the pair).

Ocean's Thirteen
Perfect

King Of New York - Special Edition - I already owned this but double dipped for the double discer (I'm keeping the other one as well because it's on the Carlton label I collect), this would probably make it onto my top ten favourite gangster movies of all time.

30 Rock Season 5 - This show is among my favourite comedy shows since 2000. Episode wise it's more of the same of what we got of the past four seasons but that's not a bad thing at all. The live episode is fun because it's done in front of a studio audience.

Wyatt Earp
Dune
Event Horizon

From Dusk Till Dawn - I like the film as it's is basically two halves, there is absolutely no clue in the first half that it's going to be a vampire film.

The Four Musketeers
Pumping Iron
Last Resort

Friends With Kids - 4 of the actors from Bridesmaids have supporting roles here in a comedy that's not belly-achingly funny but is quite nice

D.O.A. (1988)

Pearl Harbor - While the attack on Pearl Harbor is impressively done much of the love story is actually a damp squid.

Cloverfield
Cooper - Complete Series
The Powerpuff Girls Movie
Frost/Nixon
The Machinist
Windtalkers
The House By The Cemetery
Brighton Rock (1947)
Clean Slate

Bad Teacher - I hoped this film would be so much better, it is one of them films that just sort of falls into the limp category, though they are some mildly amusing bits to be found in it.

Walled In
Always
Cyrano De Bergerac

Starcrash - An Italian produced Star Wars rip-off, that was one of the earlier rip-offs/movies inspired by the movie and is fun in a cheesy sort of way. Caroline Munro is smoking hot as Stella Starr (I have a signed picture of her from this movie on my wall)

Crimewave

Muppets From Space - Muppet films from after Jim Henson's death are not quite the same for me, even if this is quite likable it's just not quite the same.

Mermaids
Rab C. Nesbitt Series 1
Rab C. Nesbitt Series 2
Garfield The Movie
House Of Bones
Halloween H20
Down and Out In Beverly Hills
Guy X
Vanilla Sky
Jack and Jill
Detective Dee - Mystery Of The Phantom Flame
Orange County
Extreme Prejudice
Another You
Tarantula
Straw Dogs (1971)
Porky's - One Size Fits All Edition
The Last Of Sheila
The Holiday
Breakdown
Two For The Money/Scent Of A Woman
White Men Can't Jump
The Stormriders
The Change-Up

See you sometime within the next couple of weeks for the likely short Christmas update.

DVD Update (18/11/2012 - 01/12/2012)

Okay, here's DVD Update on the day as I promised, this is quite a bumper update so let's get into it...

Fights Of Fury
The Thundering Mantis
TMNT

Fred Claus - Like most people when it comes near Christmas, it makes me want to watch Christmassy films and I certainly enjoyed Fred Claus enough. It's probably a film that's easy to criticize but it did it's job for me as far as I was concerned and Elizabeth Banks looked hot in her costume in this movie. Blu Ray buy.

Speed Racer
Cleopatra
The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air Season 4
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome

Saturday Night Live - The Best Of 06/07 - The problem with all SNL comps is that it's condenses so many hours of material into a pretty short taster but I enjoyed much of this particularly Seth and Amy having a go at Michael Vick (as well as Amy's rant on young female stars flashing when getting out of cars - even if it did appear on her set) and the Ghost Hunters segment with Hugh Laurie (even if it was juvenile).

Sabrina The Teenage Witch Season 1 - If you stumbled upon this blog recently, you can tell Melissa Joan Hart as been in my affections lately, and it was originally thanks a lot to this (more so then Clarissa) in the 90s that my love began for her (which sadly went away but is now back). Hopefully this is the start of me getting more seasons of this - I prefer Valerie and later Roxy to Jenny as her friend.

Allo Allo Series 5 Volume 1
Allo Allo Series 5 Volume 2
Urotsukidoji III

The Hunger Games - I can't help compare it to Battle Royale just a little bit, and I think it is BR for the Twilight crowd, and I honestly don't mean that as an insult, I enjoyed this and would happily show it to a young teen relative (where I would have reservations about doing so with BR).

Prometheus
Rock Of Ages
Snow White and The Huntsman
Titanic (1953)
Childstar
Y Tu Mama Tambien
Cool Runnings
Terminator - The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 1
The Prestige
Jurassic Park III
Safe (2012)
Every Which Way But Loose / Any Which Way But Can
The Devil's Brigade
Source Code
No Way Out
The Happening
Gossip Girl Seasons 1&2
The Muppets
Fire and Ice
Let Me In
Breaking In
Quick Change
The Amazing Spider-Man
Blame It On The Bellboy
A Simple Twist Of Fate

54

American Splendor
Eulogy
Three O'Clock High
The Brothers Solomon
Home Town Story
Staying Alive
Passengers
From Beyond The Grave
Men In Black / Men In Black II / Hancock
Contagion
Captain America - The First Avenger

What Women Want - In a film with both Marisa Tomei and Judy Greer, Mad Mel instead chooses Helen Hunt, who delivers a bland performance (it doesn't help that I'm not a fan of hers)

See I told you it was a long update...

DVD Update (4/11/2012 - 17/11/2012)

Hi and welcome to another DVD update, I'm a few days late and my excuse is... there is none, it just slipped my mind to update it, I promise to be on time with future DVD updates because I don't want to turn into Harry Knowles who posts his weeks behind, even though I share many qualities with Knowles such as that we are both overweight, our beards feature ginger (mine for some unknown reason) and can both be brought off by movie studios easily (hint hint), anyway I digress on with the update...

DVD Update (07/10/2012 - 20/10/2012)

Welcome to an abridged DVD update, where I just haven't brought too much compared to other weeks - which at the very least is on time - I didn't do too much shopping this fortnight, but there is stuff I brought which I very much like, so there is no reason to complain.

Twinkle, Twinkle Lucky Stars - the sequel to My Lucky Stars (and Winners and Sinners) mixes broad comedy with cool martial arts and for me it very much works, but I could understand others not liking that mix, Rosamund Kwan is a great female foil to the horny Lucky Stars because she is so pretty (and we get her in a wet nighty which is quite a lot for an Hong Kong film of this time period). Anyway, any film with Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao is sure to have cool fighting.

Red Cliff - The Special Edition
Dragon Lord

The Cabin In The Woods - one of the best horror films for such a long time, when I went to the cinema to see this I purposely ignored reading or watching anything about it (the fact Joss Whedon wrote and produced it was enough for me to give it blind faith) which I recommend anybody is the way to see it.

Perfect Blue - A 1997 anime that Darren Aronofosky brought the remake rights too and he's all but officially remade it (Black Swan being a clear comparison).

Yakuza Graveyard

Urotsukidoji - Legend Of The Overfiend / Urotsukidoji - Legend Of The Demon Womb - Legend of The Overfriend was my first experience of anime back in the early 90s and was absolutely 100% the wrong choice for someone who was about 11 at the time, it's amazing how much of the film I remembered after nearly 20 years but granted most or that was either dirty and/or odd, which the film is plenty of both, curious to watch the sequel as well which I've never seen.

Ring 0
Psychic Wars
Hard Boiled - Criterion Collection

South Park - Imaginationland - South Park is perhaps the most constantly funny animated series.

Mr. Deeds Goes To Town
Safe Men
Cool Hand Luke
Dragon From Russia
I Confess
Saboteur

Hour Of The Wolf - 4000+ DVDs and up until now I haven't owned a single Ingmar Bergman movie, I have never seen this this film, so I don't know if it's a poor or great place to start.

Confessions Of A Shopaholic - in an example of how eclectic my tastes are I brought this at the same time as Hour Of The Wolf. This is a fun film.

Dharma and Greg Season 1 - Jenna Elfman as never been more cute or charming in this sit-com that is likeable but pretty much run of the mill.

Moon

Assault Of Final Rival - Multiple sources say this is directed by Godfrey Ho, so I'm going to go with that.

Vertigo - so the film that recently replaced Citizen Kane after ages and ages as the number one film of all time according to Sight and Sound (I think) should have been added to my collection much earlier since I've been collecting Hitchcock films.

Frenzy - Hitchcock's second to last film which I haven't watched yet, I noticed it was an 18 which no other Hitchcock film is though.

Waltzes From Vienna / Downhill - This is a French release I got off eBay that took an amazing 3 days to arrive. Downhill is an early Hitchcock from the silent era which starred Ivor Novello, well into his 30s playing a teenage (which proves how long that has been happening) and Waltzes From Vienna is a pretty boring music biography about Strauss which Hitchcock only made to get out his contract with a studio. Still a good DVD worth having for the Hitchcock enthusiast.

See you (hopefully) in exactly two weeks!

The update that covers my birthday is upon us again. Lets get straight into the update

Tin Man
Nosferatu (Eureka Video)
Needful Things

One Eyed Monster - There is something wrong with me when I CHOSE to buy a movie with the title One Eyed Monster, and I wasn't put off the fact that Ron Jeremy's name was on the cover.

In The Name Of The King
Bravehart / Tristan & Isolade / Rob Roy

The Avenging Fist - not my favourite Hong Kong movie, the films star Ekin Cheng never stood out for me, Yuen Biao and Sammo Hung are here in support but don't really show off what they are capable of.

Shaolin
Cast A Giant Shadow
Faster Pussycat!... Kill! Kill!
Doctor Who - The Dalek Invasion Of Earth
Celebrity Juice - Too Juicy For TV

DVD / Blu Update (26/08/12 - 22/09/12)

Hey, the loss of laptop means there was no update two weeks ago when I normally would have, and actually didn't buy that many DVDs in that period so it would of actually been quite a small update, but here's a bumper DVD Update for my fictional readers to make up for it.

North By Northwest - One of Hitchcock's best is a joy and a thrill from start to finish.

Rope
The Wrong Man
The Shootist

Houseguest - It's good seeing Phil Hartman in a big role where he is not an antagonist and/or ass.

Henry & June
They Wait
War Of The Wildcats / In Old California
Seven Sinners

Sonny Chiba Collection Volume 2 - you gotta love Sonny Chiba, this is the only box-set from Momentum Pictures I needed and features G.I. Samurai, Bullet Train and Golgo 13 all in original Japanese language.

Miracles - Jackie Chan directed Miracles to prove he could do more then just cool action, and he proved it here in one of his most beautifully shot movies.

and that is actually all that would have been in last update, quite a little haul for me, so here's since

Avengers Assemble - this is a rare first day on release buy for me, costing me £9, which is higher then I have been paying, I brought it out of babysititng money I'd got (I babysit because I'm a 15 year old girl apparently), I loved this at cinema and still loved it on second viewing in the comfort of my own home.

The 51st State
All I Want For Christmas
Becoming Jane
Blood Work
Guncrazy
Meet Me In St. Louis

School For Scoundrels (2006) - This was actually better then I thought it would be

Grilled
Extreme Measures
Lakeview Terrace
Kalifornia
The Devil Wears Prada
Dial M For Murder
The Grifters
Can't Hardly Wait
Chain Letters
Holy Rollers
Home Of The Brave
Day Of The Dead (2008)
X-Men Season 3 Volume 4
The Rocker
Bugsy Malone
Greyfriar's Bobby
The Comancheros

Colombiana - according to IMDB this at one point was mooted as the Leon/The Professional sequel starring Natalie Portman but was changed when Portman passed, and if the script was anything close to it is here, I can see why.

The Pride and The Passion
Damages Season 1

Back To You Season 1 (Complete Series) - Kelsey Grammer, still relatively fresh off Frasier and Patricia Heaton, still relatively fresh off Everbody Loves Raymond.

Dynasty Season 3
The Great White Hype
Violence Jack
Ninja Scroll
Landlock
Bride Wars
Brighton Beach Memoirs
Relative Values
MirrorMask

That's it for now.

DVD and Blu Ray Update (15/07/2012 - 28/07/2012)

Hi again imaginary readers to another DVD update sponsored by nobody. It's been an okay sort of fortnight.

Fist Of Fury - This is the 23rd Century release (I already own the Hong Kong Legends version) and I have to say the print on this dubbed version is actually quite impressive for a budget title. I did a little bit of research and their is quite a lot of people who call them a bootleg company but I've seen 23rd Century in legit shops so who knows?

The Alamo
Chisum
CB4
The Night They Saved Christmas

Face The Music  - as much as Molly Ringwald is mean't to be a mega-b#tch in real life I still like her as a screen presence.

Postcards From The Edge
Change Of Habit
Falling Down
Dinner For Schmucks
Death Note

She's All That - fluffy teen rom-com stuff with the main reason for buying this is because it's in the red and white Film Four case.

The Omega Man - this was the second adaptation of Richard Matheson's I Am Legend, while I prefer The Last Man On Earth starring Vincent Price I do prefer this to the Will Smith version. Blu Ray buy.

The Brave One - Another Blu Ray buy (the 25th so far), see's Jodie Foster do vigilante justice, while I didn't dislike it I wanted it to be better, I just dunno I think it was missing some sort of spark.

The Informers
Tora! Tora! Tora!
Colors
First Knight
Dudley Do Right
The Green Berets

National Treasure 2 - Book Of Secrets - this sequel is actually better then the first movie.

The Street Fighter Collection - Birthday gift along with the one below from my Brother, but hey wait a minute... my Birthday is not actually until October. I guess my Brother saw these and couldn't wait to give them to me. I already owned these three films in the 10 Faces Of Sonny Chiba set but those where all dubbed, so it's sort of like seeing these in their original Japanese language for the first time or at that very least in a new light.

Sonny Chiba Collection Volume 1

Sydney White - I always thought Amanda Bynes had quite a cool personality in the stuff I'd seen her in (like The Amanda Show), it seems like she had some sort of trouble with the law earlier this year so I hope it's not the beginning of going in the wrong direction, I haven't watched this yet.

El Dorado
Fort Apache
Wonderland

Four Enchanting Stories By Roald Dahl - I've been collecting DVDs based on the work of Roald Dahl and this was the last title I needed based off of any of his books (I need Chitty Chitty Bang Bang but that was written for the screen).

The Big Sleep (1978)
Exit To Eden
Rio Lobo
Rooster Cogburn
Sahara (2005)
Patton
The Master Of Disguise

Monster - I have never seen this movie before but it cost me the grand total of 20p. I think one of the reasons I haven't seen it is being burnt out by Oscar favoured movies because 9 times out of 10 I feel like I'm disappointed, I am going to give this a try soon enough though because I am intrigued by real life criminals.

Suspense Classics (50 Movies) - I do enjoy the Mill Creek 50 movie packs (or the 12, 20 or 25 for that matter), while the quality is not the best the movies are watchable and you often get a lot for your money. This was actually in a shop in my (English) home town, I am probably familiar with less titles in this then I usually am but there are some films I am intrigued to see such as The Woman Hunter with Barbara Eden, Seducers with Sondra Locke, Please Murder Me with Angela Lansbury and The Night They Took Miss Beautiful featuring Phil Silvers.

Mean Girls 2 - I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Mean Girls, so I was curious to see this sequel even if it was a straight to DVD release and only featured one actor coming back (Tim Meadows), I have to say despite many negative comments I've heard about this it actually has some likeable moments. I'm not gonna recommend it 100% though but I was happy to leave it on.

Bullets Over Broadway
Between Heaven and Hell / Guadalcanal Diary / To The Shores Of Tripoli
A.I. - Artificial Intelligence
The Long Kiss Goodnight
Around The World In 80 Days (2004)
The Avengers (1998)
Days Of Thunder
Shattering The Silence

That's it for this fortnight, see you in two weeks...

DVD and Blu Ray Update (01/07/12 - 14/07/12)

Welcome to the DVD Update, which is pretty much the ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of me doing the first ever DVD Update, a lot as changed in the last year in my real life, a lot for the better.

Jumpin' Jack Flash - for as many DVDs I own that feature Whoopi Goldberg, this is her first lead comedy that she stars in that I own.

South Park Season 5 - a season that includes the very dark Scott Tenorman Must Die, aswell as Cripple Fight is pretty awesome in my book.

Coupling Series 1 - I'm surprised I never had any of this on DVD until now cause I found it was enjoyable when it was one and the series is often very cheap to get the different series on DVD.

Masquerade
Basket Case

Fury - Fury as the honour of been the first film made in 2012 that I own in 2012.

Three Amigos

Unknown
The Addiction
Return From The River Kwai
Gattaca
The American President

Rat Race / Thunderpants / Black Knight - I have only seen Rat Race of the three films, it's like It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and The Cannonball Run films only it doesn't have the same affection I've had for them.

Men Of War
The Defender
Kaiji - The Ultimate Gambler
Ong Bak 3
Gorillas In The Mist
The Magnificent Seven Ride

BASEketball - funny movie, I prefer this to Orgazmo (the other live action film with Trey Parker and Matt Stone I've seen). Any film where Ernest Borgnine sings I'm Too Sexy is alright in my book.

True Crime

The James Dean Story / The Bells Of Cockaigne - as much as I like James Dean's (short) career, my main reason for getting this was the fact that The James Dean Story is an early work directed by one of the greatest directors of all time Robert Altman.

The Mask Of Zorro / The Legend Of Zorro

It's Complicated - Nancy Meyers continues to make films I enjoy but are never amazing. I did like the central relationship in the movie

Multiplicity - Michael Keaton these days I don't think gets the due his deserved as a performer, this is not a great movie but it works thanks to his charms.

Wild In The Country
The Glass Bottom Boat
Salem's Lot (2004)

The Song Of Bernadette - what is most intriguing to me is Vincent Price in a co-starring role, I have only ever seen him in horror or a film with a fantasy element.

Boomerang
The Kids Are All Alright
Cheech and Chong's The Coriscan Brothers
Starter For 10
Changing Lanes
Up In Smoke
Nixon
Jude

World's Greatest Dad - Bobcat Goldthwait, is a director I wanna hunt out all his films that he has directed.

The Russia House

Soul Men - two of it's actors (Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes) passed away before it's release.

Fred Astaire Collection - four films, the one with the most interest to me was Finian's Rainbow, which is directed by Francis Ford Coppola (pre-Godfather).

30 Rock Season 4 - even as far into this series 30 Rock is as good as it as ever been.

May - cool little horror film with standout role for Angela Bettis in the title role, brilliantly walking the line between cute and creepy.

Bees In Paradise
Band Waggon

Shaft (2000) - King of Cool Samuel L. Jackson is the title shaft not as cool as Richard Roundtree who played Shaft in the original movies (Jackson is not technically playing the same character here he is playing the nephew of the original John Shaft, Roundtree even appears).

Retreat - this is a Blu Ray buy of a film I am not that familiar with, I like the actors who are in it enough particularly Cillian Murphy.

American History X - another Blu Ray buy this fortnight. I like this film but I find it very imperfect.

The Taking Of Pelham 123 (2009) - I really liked the original but I'm not holding up hope for this remake to be the same quality. Another Blu Ray buy.

The Experiment - yes this update is ending with a run of Blu Rays, I'm not massively familiar with this movie but I'm aware of the event that inspired this movie.

That's it for this update see you in about two weeks dudes and dudettes!

DVD n Blu Ray Update (17/06/2012 - 30/06/2012)

Hello, welcome to another update, let's get straight into things, there is a LOT of Hitchcock this update, John Wayne, Elvis and Clint Eastwood also appear more then a couple of times apiece.

The Age Of Innocence
Smart People
Gardens Of Stone

Something Wild - this film warped my fragile little mind when I was younger, the key memory was of Melanie Griffith getting her top off, perhaps she was the first nudity I saw of an actress I was familar of.

Action - Complete Series - originally done in 1999 this American network television show was probably just a bit too cynical and dark to ever last, I would say it was before it's time it's probably still too cyncical and dark to fly now.

The Nuttiest Nutcracker / Buster and Chauncey's Silent Night

Alfred Hitchcock - The Legend Begins - listing itself on the cover as 20 Hitchcock films (it's actually 18 films plus 2 episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents), it's bring together a cool collection of a lot of his British films going back to the silent era, which rather coolly includes The Lady Vanishes, The 39 Steps and The Man Who Knew Too Much among others, as it's a budget release it doesn't include crisp prints but they are still watchable. There is about 50 minutes of trailers as extras, which also covers is later output including the awesome trailers for The Birds and Psycho.

The Crying Game - like many films before and since, the twist ending as been talked about and imitated so much that it would be hard to watch this for the first timenot knowing the twist.

Herbie Rides Again
Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo

Maximum Overdrive - Stephen King stepped in front of the camera for the first... and last time with Maximum Overdrive and let's just say it's no Night Of The Hunter, I find some 80s charm in it though.

New York, I Love You
The Last Temptation Of Christ
Dolores Claiborne
Father Christmas
Firefox
To Catch A Thief

The Arena - 1970s Pam Grier was H.O.T.

Hang Em High

Failure To Launch - I only brought this because Zooey Deschanel as a supporting role in this movie, there really is honestly no other reason.

Kinsey - I really dug this movie and find more information about Alfred Kinsey, I think the guy did have a point about sexuality but that is for another time and blog post.

Two Mules For Sister Sara
Singles
National Lampoon's Senior Trip

The Proposition - replacing a DVD that went missing, possibly lent to somebody, possibly just took

Kramer vs Kramer

The Searchers - This is possibly my favourite John Wayne film.

Night Of The Living Dead (1990)
Driving Lessons
Girls! Girls! Girls

Jailhouse Rock - tthis is my favourite Elvis starring movie to me.

Mannequin
The A-Team
Red Riding Hood
Mr and Mrs. Smith (1941)
The Trouble With Harry

Foreign Correspondent - I pretty much wanted to get this film after watching the trailer, it just looked like it would be a great film.

The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) - I prefer the 1934 version with Peter Lorre, but that doesn't mean I don't dislike this one.

Suspicion
Torn Curtain
The Diary Of Ellen Rimbauer

Spellbound (1945) - excellently acted and certainly a film before it's time.

The Paradine Case

John Wayne - The Tribute Collection - 25 of mostly the older John Wayne films without a couple post-50s that went into the public domain

Marnie
Shadow Of A Doubt
Family Plot
Topaz
Red River
King Creole

Drive Me Crazy - I found the leads appealing so it raised it to a little bit more then just watchable.

The Secret Of My Success

Sucker Punch - This I believe is my 19th Blu Ray buy. I went into this film not fully sure what to expect and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, maybe the hot & pretty girls helped.

The Tracey Fragments

That's it for this fortnight's update

DVD Update (03/06/2012 - 16/06/2012)

Welcome to another DVD update, a bit of a bumper update thanks to the fact, that I managed to get a couple of DVDs that I already own and sold straight for profit (and replaced them with other DVDs) this fortnight.

Muppets Magic - a pound shop buy, without checking the box, I think all of these are from episodes of The Ed Sullivan Show, so a bunch of these (if not all) will predate Sesame Street.

Father Goose
Pollyanna

The Town That Cancelled Christmas - I'm on a kick of building up a library of Christmas DVDs, I put a little bit of this on, this could potentially be the worst Christmas film in my collection, but I will probably won't watch it properly until December to say otherwise.

Spies Like Us
Rivals
Pretty Smart
Where The Heart Is
How The West Was Won

Your Highness - it had some funny moments and the distraction of both Zooey Deschanel and Natalie Portman.

Rentadick
A Night At The Roxbury
I Am Omega
Shattered Trust
Roxanne

Young Bruce Lee (2010) - the sole Blu Ray of the update, which my brother got for me.

Spy Hard
Red Dawn
The Kingdom
Friday Night Lights
To Live For
Persuasion

Reposssessed - the jokes are not as subtle as Airplane or Naked Gun, but you find yourself laughing at some of them.

Churchill - The Hollywood Years
Alfie (1966)

Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen - Lindsay Lohan when she cute seems like such a distant memory now doesn't it, while her peak for me will always be (and always looks like it's gonna be aswell) Mean Girls, Confessions Of is a likeable enough teen comedy.

The Hills Have Eyes (1977)
South Park Season 7

The Young Bruce Lee - This is completely unrelated to the Young Bruce Lee I got on Blu Ray a bit further up. This movie fits in that glorious genre called Bruceploitation, which I adore so much.

Dealers
Papillon
Mean Creek
Shutter Island
The Big Bounce (2004)
Be Cool
Alexander The Great
Cougar Town Season 1
The Mission
Miami Vice
Desperate Housewives Season 1

Friends Season 6 - so getting some Friends, aswell as Cougar Town this update, it's a bit of Courteney Cox on TV - Then and Now. I can get into watching Friends better again now Channel 4 and it's sister channel E4 are not hammering it to death.

Friends Season 8
The Last American Virgin

Mouth To Mouth - I didn't feel emotionally involved in the movie until the last 20 so minutes until it gripped me, so what I'm saying is I wish the rest of the movie grabbed me like that. Ellen Page is as always extremely watchable.

Bringing Out The Dead

Chopping Mall - the first part of the movie features cool cameos from Mary Woronov and Paul Bartel (reprising their Eating Raoul characters) and Dick Miller (reprising his Walter Paisley character), the rest of the film is a cool killer robots go on a rampage in a mall aswell a particurly cool scene of a head exploding.

Sleeping Dogs - or the infamous film where a woman recounts her story of giving a blowjob to her family dog which implodes her relationship with the guy in her life.

Crime and Punishment In Suburbia

Bad Girls From Valley High - it gets a bad overall rating from IMDB, but it's really not a terrible film, the three female leads Julie Benz, Nicole Bilderback and Monica Keena make it watchable, Christopher Lloyd though as an odd slapstick side story which gives the film an odd tone.

still got some outstanding buys from eBay on the way, so I'll add them (likely) in the next update

DVD and Blu Ray Update (20/05/2012 - 02/06/2012)

Welcome to another DVD and Blu Ray update, that is a couple of days later thanks to my busyness and a bit of forgetfulness, anyway let's get straight into it.

The Stone Angel

The Adventures Of Pluto Nash - until Norbit came along, Pluto Nash was Eddie Murphy's worst movie, with a bloated budget and a lack of comedy in a comedy movie.

One Of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing

Oliver! - Oliver Reed is genuinely chilling in this musical.

Bottom 3 - Hooligan's Island / Bottom 2001 - it's sad to say but I think Bottom will never be as funny again to me as it was in an earlier party of my life.

The Midnight Meat Train
A Bronx Tale
Mad Max 2
In The Loop
Ella Enchanted
Jerry Maguire
X-Men - First Class
Graham Norton - For Your Pleasure
The Good Shepherd
Dexter Season 1
Face/Off
Cowboys and Bandits (50 Movies) - 50 old oaters and not a single one featuring John Wayne.

Hollywood Comedy Legends (50 Movies) - I like these Mill Creek Entertainment 50 movie sets (they also do 12, 20 etc), you can find a lot of cool movies in these sets, the first movie I watched in this collection was SOMETHING SPECIAL, starring Pamela Segall (the voice of Bobby on King Of The Hill) and featured a young Seth Green, cool 80s fantasy comedy where she wishes she could get it easy like a boy so she wakes up with a penis(!), I've touched on watching bits of some others (no other full movies yet) but a cool and cheap collection.

Fantasia 2000
D.W. Griffith Monumental Epics - with The Birth Of A Nation it's impossible to go without mentioning how it portryals the KKK in a postive light

Adam's Rib
Down To You
Transylvania 6-5000
James and The Giant Peach

The New Guy - seriously it didn't occur to me until I put the DVD in (of a film I've seen before) that the lovely, adorable Zooey Deschanel is now on The New Girl and she did a film called The New Guy about 10 years back. It's a teen film that doesn't stand out amazingly well but it's watchable.

Battlestar Galactica - The Plan
The BFG
The Black Cauldron
The Undefeated
Love and Other Impossible Pursuits

Masters Of The Universe - I liked this film growing up and even on my childhood memory I never knew it was a truly good film.

The Watcher In The Woods
Terms Of Endearment
The Dark Half
The First Great Train Robbery
Little Man Tate
The Princess Diaries

The Good Girl - along with Office Space, Jennifer Aniston's best movie.

Red
The Simple Life
A Serious Man
Bugsy
The Big Tease
Big Trouble
National Lampoon's Gold Diggers - Will Friedle as got what it takes to be an entertaining actor but this film is just LAME.

Cahill United States Marshal
Hard Candy
The Plumber
Tattle Tale

Join me in a few weeks for the next update...

DVD and Blu Ray Update (06/05/2012 - 19/05/2012)

Welcome to another DVD and Blu Ray update, a bit bigger then normal, some DVDs got sold this month of the wrestling variety (just out of price I would get from the compared to how much I'd re-watch it) so spent some of the money on getting more aswell as stuff out of my normal money.

The Return Of The Pink Panther - for whatever reason this isn't part of The Pink Panther collection I got (in the purple box) even though it stars Peter Sellers like the others do, maybe it was a rights issue thing but anyway I got this elusive Panther film now.

Keith Lemon's A Very Brilliant World Tour
Mercury Rising / The Jackal
Jarhead
Life
All The President's Men
Perrier's Bounty

High Society - this is actually the first Grace Kelly film I've added to my collection.

Please Don't Eat The Daisies - speaking of adding people to my collection, this is the first Doris Day film I own.

Arthur (1981)
The Hotel New Hampshire

Deep Impact - released in 1998, the year of the dueling asteroid movies, it went up against Armageddon which I think made a fair bit more money, this is a more human story of the two, but still has a a lot of SFX. It's a very watchable movie with some nice moments.

Fame (2009)
The New World
The History Of Wrestlemania I - IX
Midnight In The Garden Of Good and Evil
The Swordsman
Throw Momma From The Train
Paradise Hawaiian Style
Blue Hawaii
Combat Academy
Coogan's Bluff
Junior Bonner
I Could Never Be Your Woman
East Is East
The Ladykillers (2004)
The Girl On The Boat
Halloween 5
Dr. T and The Woman
Wild West Series 1
Terry Thomas Collection
Everything Must Go
Angels One Five
Airheads
Road To Collection

South Park Season 13 - South Park's thirteenth season is still going strong with many funny episodes including the Kanye West Fishsticks episode aswell as the queef episode. This is the first South Park season I own on DVD so am very glad to finally break that run.

Only Fools and Horses Series 3
The Rescuers Down Under
Thor
Attack The Block
American Dad Volume 5

Arthur (2011) - not bad that is how I would describe it, I liked the chemistry between Russell Brand and Helen Mirren (here playing the John Gielgud role)

That's it for this fortnight, catch you in TWO!

City Of God
Mr. Popper's Penguins
The Color Of Money
In Her Defense

Jason Manford Live At The Manchester Apollo
Catch Me If You Can
Zoom - Academy For Superheroes

It Could Happen To You
Art School Confidential
Harum Scarum
Mystic River
Getting Even With Dad
True Grit (2010)

Knight and Day

The Way Of The Gun - a lot of fun, nobody really talks about this film very much. Sarah Silverman has a great small role early on (and gets punched out)

Renaissance Man
Honey, I Blew Up The Kid
The Aviator

Parenthood Season 1 - really great with how this series as turned out, only a few series based on films actually work.

We Know Where You Live Remix

4.3.2.1. - I liked Kidulthood/Adulthood enough so was curious to see this movie from Noel Clarke, it's okay with some neat stuff. Blu Ray buy (number 13), mini-note - I actually own more Blu Rays with Emma Roberts now (2) then I do DVDs (1), that is the only person I can say that about I believe.

Norbit

That's it so see you in another two weeks.
