DVD Update (02/12/2012 - 15/12/2012)

Hi and welcome to the latest DVD update, let's get straight into this with another long update...

The Dark Knight Rises - The update starts with a bang, with a film which I know divided some people's opinion's on but it was all I wanted from a Batman film. On both viewings (one cinema, one home) I was gripped by what I saw.

Escape From L.A. - As a teenager I didn't mind this movie, sure it wasn't in the same league as Escape From New York but I enjoyed it - the surf scene was still naff to me though - I am curious to see it again after a long absence.

Rush
Dances With Wolves
Elvis - That's The Way It Is

Halloween Resurrection - Busta Rhymes using Kung Fu on Michael Myers probably as to be the low point for this franchise (including the Rob Zombie movies)

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

While You Were Sleeping - Sweet romantic comedy that cemented to me back when I first saw it that Sandra Bullock had a much more engaging and likable presence then Meg Ryan.

The Break Up/Friends With Money/Along Came Polly - Three movies that are pretty average with Jennifer Aniston being the connection between the three movies (though it doesn't say that on the cover) but I was pushing to get an extra title at the time and this counted as one so it was cheaper then the rest.

Ocean's Twelve - Everything's going on enjoyable enough though not as good as Eleven, until it's pointed out Tess looks the double of Julia Roberts - yes Tess does look the double of Julia Roberts because she is in fact played by Julia Roberts - but if she looked so much like Julia Roberts why did it take a movie and a half for anybody to point this out (the real Bruce Willis even confuses the pair).

Ocean's Thirteen
Perfect

King Of New York - Special Edition - I already owned this but double dipped for the double discer (I'm keeping the other one as well because it's on the Carlton label I collect), this would probably make it onto my top ten favourite gangster movies of all time.

30 Rock Season 5 - This show is among my favourite comedy shows since 2000. Episode wise it's more of the same of what we got of the past four seasons but that's not a bad thing at all. The live episode is fun because it's done in front of a studio audience.

Wyatt Earp
Dune
Event Horizon

From Dusk Till Dawn - I like the film as it's is basically two halves, there is absolutely no clue in the first half that it's going to be a vampire film.

The Four Musketeers
Pumping Iron
Last Resort

Friends With Kids - 4 of the actors from Bridesmaids have supporting roles here in a comedy that's not belly-achingly funny but is quite nice

D.O.A. (1988)

Pearl Harbor - While the attack on Pearl Harbor is impressively done much of the love story is actually a damp squid.

Cloverfield
Cooper - Complete Series
The Powerpuff Girls Movie
Frost/Nixon
The Machinist
Windtalkers
The House By The Cemetery
Brighton Rock (1947)
Clean Slate

Bad Teacher - I hoped this film would be so much better, it is one of them films that just sort of falls into the limp category, though they are some mildly amusing bits to be found in it.

Walled In
Always
Cyrano De Bergerac

Starcrash - An Italian produced Star Wars rip-off, that was one of the earlier rip-offs/movies inspired by the movie and is fun in a cheesy sort of way. Caroline Munro is smoking hot as Stella Starr (I have a signed picture of her from this movie on my wall)

Crimewave

Muppets From Space - Muppet films from after Jim Henson's death are not quite the same for me, even if this is quite likable it's just not quite the same.

Mermaids
Rab C. Nesbitt Series 1
Rab C. Nesbitt Series 2
Garfield The Movie
House Of Bones
Halloween H20
Down and Out In Beverly Hills
Guy X
Vanilla Sky
Jack and Jill
Detective Dee - Mystery Of The Phantom Flame
Orange County
Extreme Prejudice
Another You
Tarantula
Straw Dogs (1971)
Porky's - One Size Fits All Edition
The Last Of Sheila
The Holiday
Breakdown
Two For The Money/Scent Of A Woman
White Men Can't Jump
The Stormriders
The Change-Up

See you sometime within the next couple of weeks for the likely short Christmas update.
