Top 10 Women Of June 2011

As always start with the bottom 5 with no pictures

10 - Jennifer Lawrence
9 - Eliza Dushku
8 - Krysten Ritter
7 - Melissa Joan Hart
6 - Monica Keena

and now the top 5, which the top 4 in particular I feel is very predictable - all of them are easy choices to be the top 4...
5 - Busy Philipps

I've loved Busy Philipps even since her role as Kim Kelly on Freaks and Geeks, and I got proper acquainted with Cougar Town this month.
4 - Ellen Page

Ellen Page, even though she is cute to me has a great presence on screen.
3 - Natalie Portman
2 - Zooey Deschanel
1 - Kristen Bell

There is changes coming to this Top list, I'll keep you posted...

DVD n Blu Ray Update (17/06/2012 - 30/06/2012)

Hello, welcome to another update, let's get straight into things, there is a LOT of Hitchcock this update, John Wayne, Elvis and Clint Eastwood also appear more then a couple of times apiece.

The Age Of Innocence
Smart People
Gardens Of Stone

Something Wild - this film warped my fragile little mind when I was younger, the key memory was of Melanie Griffith getting her top off, perhaps she was the first nudity I saw of an actress I was familar of.

Action - Complete Series - originally done in 1999 this American network television show was probably just a bit too cynical and dark to ever last, I would say it was before it's time it's probably still too cyncical and dark to fly now.

The Nuttiest Nutcracker / Buster and Chauncey's Silent Night

Alfred Hitchcock - The Legend Begins - listing itself on the cover as 20 Hitchcock films (it's actually 18 films plus 2 episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents), it's bring together a cool collection of a lot of his British films going back to the silent era, which rather coolly includes The Lady Vanishes, The 39 Steps and The Man Who Knew Too Much among others, as it's a budget release it doesn't include crisp prints but they are still watchable. There is about 50 minutes of trailers as extras, which also covers is later output including the awesome trailers for The Birds and Psycho.

The Crying Game - like many films before and since, the twist ending as been talked about and imitated so much that it would be hard to watch this for the first timenot knowing the twist.

Herbie Rides Again
Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo

Maximum Overdrive - Stephen King stepped in front of the camera for the first... and last time with Maximum Overdrive and let's just say it's no Night Of The Hunter, I find some 80s charm in it though.

New York, I Love You
The Last Temptation Of Christ
Dolores Claiborne
Father Christmas
Firefox
To Catch A Thief

The Arena - 1970s Pam Grier was H.O.T.

Hang Em High

Failure To Launch - I only brought this because Zooey Deschanel as a supporting role in this movie, there really is honestly no other reason.

Kinsey - I really dug this movie and find more information about Alfred Kinsey, I think the guy did have a point about sexuality but that is for another time and blog post.

Two Mules For Sister Sara
Singles
National Lampoon's Senior Trip

The Proposition - replacing a DVD that went missing, possibly lent to somebody, possibly just took

Kramer vs Kramer

The Searchers - This is possibly my favourite John Wayne film.

Night Of The Living Dead (1990)
Driving Lessons
Girls! Girls! Girls

Jailhouse Rock - tthis is my favourite Elvis starring movie to me.

Mannequin
The A-Team
Red Riding Hood
Mr and Mrs. Smith (1941)
The Trouble With Harry

Foreign Correspondent - I pretty much wanted to get this film after watching the trailer, it just looked like it would be a great film.

The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) - I prefer the 1934 version with Peter Lorre, but that doesn't mean I don't dislike this one.

Suspicion
Torn Curtain
The Diary Of Ellen Rimbauer

Spellbound (1945) - excellently acted and certainly a film before it's time.

The Paradine Case

John Wayne - The Tribute Collection - 25 of mostly the older John Wayne films without a couple post-50s that went into the public domain

Marnie
Shadow Of A Doubt
Family Plot
Topaz
Red River
King Creole

Drive Me Crazy - I found the leads appealing so it raised it to a little bit more then just watchable.

The Secret Of My Success

Sucker Punch - This I believe is my 19th Blu Ray buy. I went into this film not fully sure what to expect and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, maybe the hot & pretty girls helped.

The Tracey Fragments

That's it for this fortnight's update

From My Old Blog

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

Top 30 Actors Who Appear In My Collection The Most (10 -1)

And so we are at the Top 10 of actors.
10 - Danny DeVito (36)

Danny DeVito is an actor I enjoy but does feel like he sort of sneaked his way into the top 10.

Most Wanted - I'd go with Goin' South, Hoffa and The Rainmaker, from a TV point of view I'll go with both Taxi Season Four and Season Five.
9 - Alec Baldwin (36)

Alec Baldwin, - not to go to much on the SNL theme, but he is certainly one of the best friends of the show with many memorable hosting outings but also cast in 30 Rock.

Most Wanted - Top of the list is 30 Rock Season Four and Season Five. Movie wise I'd go with The Hunt For Red October, She's Having A Baby and Great Balls Of Fire.
8 - Jim Carrey (37)

I've known of Jim Carrey even before his big break into leading man status with Ace Ventura, this was thanks to his stint on In Living Color and the movies Earth Girls Are Easy and The Dead Pool.

Most Wanted - I guess A Christmas Carol because that's all I need of his recent stuff. Go back in time and say Copper Mountain aswell, he also as a small role in the Clint Eastwood movie Pink Cadillac.
7 - John Wayne (38)

It's not always cool to enjoy John Wayne. Okay some of his performances might be a bit iffy and in some cases he's just playing  a very similar character

John Wayne could be a future number one on the list just by the sheer number of films he's done and that are available, and there still quite a few of his works that are genuiene must haves.

Most Wanted - The first few films that come to mind are The Quiet Man, They Were Expendable and The Green Berets.
6 - Dick Miller (39)

The legend that is Dick Miller - a favourite of Roger Corman and Joe Dante, it wasn't a shock to me he would get so high on the list because I just love the guy and clearly a lot of directors do too.

Most Wanted - One of his rare starring roles A Bucket Of Blood. Some other wants are the 1993 movie Shake, Rattle and Rock, others include Motorama, Dead Heat, Twilight Zone - The Movie, I Wanna Hold Your Hand and Project X.
5 - Adam Sandler (40)

Another SNL alumni. I think (most) Adam Sandler movies have a Marmite effect on people,  you get people who enjoy his movies then just some (particularly a lot of critics) who just can't stand the man.

Most Wanted - I guess Jack and Jill and 8 Crazy Nights. For some smaller roles I'll go with Shakes The Clown, Mixed Nuts and Dirty Work.
4 - Sylvester Stallone (41)

All 3 faces of Planet Hollywood make it into the list. Sylvester Stallone on the whole tend to range from excellent, good  but fun, bad but  fun and bad just bad, he runs quite a full spectrum that a lot of other actors don't.

Most Wanted - I think Rebel (aka No Place To Hide) is the only role I need of his that is until Expendables 2 comes out.
3 - Seth Green (41)

Seth Green still looks really young but he's been working an incredibly long time, it seems he works hard because he seems to have so many things on the go. Seth Green is actually very realistic to sometime become the number one (though he ten behind on this list).

Most Wanted - staying away from Family Guy and Robot Chicken, I'll stick with movies such as Horror In The Attic, Can't Hardly Wait and Idle Hands.
2 - Phil Hartman (45)

The late, great Phil Hartman makes it until second place. The hugely talented comic actor had his career cut short in tragic circumanstances. I have been a fan for a long time of SNL alumni Hartman.

It's a short list of entertainers I miss as much as Phil Hartman.

Most Wanted - Well The Crazysitter and Houseguest come to mind, but also Stuart Saves His Family, Quick Change, Three Amigos!, Last Resort, Weekend Pass and CB4.
1 - Frank Welker (51)

With 676 titles listed on his IMDB page, it's no surprise Welker would have placed so highly on the list, he gets number one just for sheer number of strong projects he's worked on.

Most Wanted - Some of the big wants are The Informant, Tank Girl, The Trouble With Girls, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, Suburban Commando, Spawn and Jumanji.

That's it! join me in 3 or 6 months, to see how much or how little the list has changed.

These are my predictions for people who could make the list next time round -  Jack Nicholson, Clint Eastwood and Samuel L. Jackson - there is still a lot of these guys outputs I really want.

Top 15 Directors Who Appear In My Collection The Most (5-1)

Here's the final 5 directors, I may do the next one in a couple of months, maybe 3 months - 6 months at the most.
5 - Joe Dante (20)

I don't only consider Joe Dante one of the most under appreciated directors of all time but one of the my absolute favourite directors of all time.

Most Wanted - I own all his solo directing outings so I'm going with Twilight Zone - The Movie, which is quite high on my want list.
4 - Clint Eastwood (21)

He barely missed out on the actors countdown (2 short, sorry if that avoids later suspense fictional reader). Eastwood as an impressive resume as a director.

Most Wanted - speaking of directorial outings only The Eiger Sanction and Breezy.
3 - Steven Spielberg (24)

Certainly one of the most successful directors of all time.

Most Wanted - I mentioned Twilight Zone - The Movie below, so I will go with that aswell as Always.
2 - Gerald Thomas (31)

Two words got him into second place - CARRY ON - if it wasn't for Carry On he wouldn't be on the list at all, I own no other of his films (he did direct non Carry on stuff), he directed all the way from Sergeant to the ill-fated Columbus. I should also point out he was Hull born (my home town) so he's proud addition.

Most Wanted - I'm going for Nurse On Wheels, Twice Around The Daffodils and Watch Your Stern.
1 - Alfred Hitchcock (34)

The Master Of Suspense shoots straight into number one, a place he would of never have had only a few short weeks ago.

Most Wanted - The three I should own mostly are North By Northwest, Vertigo and Rear Window.

That's it for now.

Top 30 Actors Who Appear In My Collection The Most (20 - 11))

Okay, here's the middle 10 for the actors.

20 - Dan Aykroyd (31)

Yet another SNL Alumni (and even one of the original Not Ready For Prime Time Players).

Most Wanted - I'd go with Mr. Mike's Mondo Video, Doctor Detroit, Twilight Zone - The Movie, The Great Outdoors and Tommy Boy.

19 - Jane Lynch (32)

The second woman on the list and actually the highest placed woman.

Most Wanted - certainly not anything Glee related, but at the moment besides various TV appearances I'd probably go with The Rocker.
18 - Robert De Niro (32)

There was actually a time when De Niro was far and away the leader in my DVD collection with over 50 titles - but when I got rid of loads years ago many of his lesser titles such as Analyze This, Analyze That, Hide and Seek, The Score and Men Of Honor among others went.

Most Wanted - Probably The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight or 1900.
17 - Harry Shearer (33)

Another SNL alumni (he was a cast member twice - both times he was unhappy there), he is also the second member of Spinal Tap to make it on the list and I believe the fourth from the Christopher Guest stable of actors.

Most Wanted - probably Real Life. also let's say The Simpsons Season 12.
16 - Stephen Root (33)

Stephen Root is one of them character actors I really enjoy.

Most Wanted - I'd go with Big Miracle, J. Edgar and Black Rain.
15 - Bill Murray (33)

Yes another SNL alumni and one of the coolest actors to boot.

Most Wanted - I'd like Quick Change, What About Bob?, Where The Buffalo Roam, Mr. Mike's Mondo Video, Jungle Burger and The Razor's Edge.
14 - Jon Lovitz (33)

Another SNL alumni.

Most Wanted - I'd like Mom and Dad Save The World and Mr. Destiny.
13 - Ben Stiller (35)

One time SNL cast member (as a featured player).

Most Wanted - I'd go with Zero Effect, The Suburbans, Keeping The Faith and Orange County.
12 - Eddie Murphy (36)

Famous for saving SNL from the brink of cancellation.

Most Wanted - One of his early movies, Best Defense, then a couple of his early 90s efforts Boomerang and The Distinguished Gentleman.
11 - Will Ferrell (36)

You guessed, he's another SNL alumni and so ends a very top heavy SNL update (and an actual run of 5 former cast member - spoiler ahead, number 10 was never a cast member).

Most Wanted - I'd like to add Winter Passing.

Join me next time for the last five directors then the final countdown of the 10 actors.

Thursday 28 June 2012

Top 15 Directors Who Appear In My Collection The Most (10 - 6)

Here's the next five directors

10 - Joel Coen (16)

Most Wanted - I can't actually get any more Joel Coen (or Coen Brothers) directed movies, until next years Inside Llewlyn Davis.
9 - Robert Altman (16)

Most Wanted - I think Nashville and Buffalo Bill and The Indians top the list of most wanted.
8 - Joss Whedon (17)

Most Wanted - it's not out until September but Avengers Assemble (as it's called in the UK for whatever reason), everything I wanted out of a superhero movie and more.
7 - Martin Scorsese (19)

One of the greatest directors of all time.

Most Wanted - it's between an earlier one - Boxcar Bertha and his latest - Hugo.
6 - Godfrey Ho (20)

Often been named Hong Kong's Ed Wood (in fact one of his many, many aliases is Ed Woo). Ho is known for his cut and paste technique and is love of putting ninja in the title.

Most Wanted - probably the nicely titled Hard Bastard.

Coming up next the middle section for actors, following the final 5 of the directors.

Top 30 Actors Who Appear In My Collection The Most (30 - 21)

This is like the director one right below, so let's get on with it -

30 - Arnold Schwarzenegger (29)

Okay his performances are often of the oak variety but he's done a couple of quintessential action movies aswell as the odd fun action movie.

Most Wanted - I'm going with Cactus Jack or The Jayne Mansfield Story as it stands.
29 - Rance Howard (29)

Rance Howard is the ultimate surprise entrant on this list, but looking over is IMDB page it says he has 247 acting credits, so maybe it's not so shocking. The father of Ron Howard's first acting credit goes back as far as 1956 and still as credits for this year (and some even due next year).

Most Wanted - it's between Chinatown and The Lonely Guy.
28 - John Cleese (29)

Most Wanted - I'll say The Rise and Rise Of Michael Rimmer, Privates On Parade, Erik The Viking and The Great Muppet Caper.
27 - Janeane Garofalo (30)

She is the first of a fair few Saturday Night Live alumni on the list (though her time there was unhappy and fairly short lived), I used to have more of a crush on closer to 10 - 15 years ago.

Most Wanted - I'd like to see Martin & Orloff.
26 - Steve Buscemi (30)

Who doesn't love Steve Buscemi? There was a time that he showed up in every other movie, be it big brainless fun or for The Coen Brothers, Buscemi left an lasting impression.

Most Wanted - I'd love to see Boardwalk Empire Season 1.
25 - Ed Begley Jr. (30)

A cool actor, happy for him that he got a place on the list (like he cares).

Most Wanted - from a television point of view I'd really Veronica Mars Season 3. I'd also go for The Crazysitter, Even Cowgirls Get The Blues, She Devil, Young Doctors In Love and Goin' South.
24 - Bruce Willis (31)

The second of the Planet Hollywood faces on the list, effortlessly goes between big budget and independent.

Most Wanted - I automatically thought of Twelve Monkeys and though his role is only small (and pre-fame) I'd like The Verdict too.
23 - Rob Schneider (31)

The second SNL alumni on the list, likely gets this high because of his work with Adam Sandler (and appearing in Happy Madison movies) which add a lot to the total. His place is probably only so high because of his work with Sandler and SNL compilations among others.

Most Wanted - I guess Jack and Jill though it probably won't be great. I'll add the Beverly Hillbillies movie too.
22 - Michael McKean (31)

The third SNL alumni on the list so far (though he was already established going in). Another actor I really enjoy when he shows up in small parts.

Most Wanted - I want Clue, Young Doctors In Love, Short Circuit 2, The Big Picture and True Identity.
21 - John Goodman (31)

It surprises me John Goodman is this high on the list, but I guess it helps he's a Coen Brothers regular and he's had quite a prolific career.

Most Wanted -  There's Dirty Work for which he is uncredited. I'd also go for The Wrong Guys, Always and Punchline.

see you soon for the next directors then actors again

Top 15 Directors Who Appear In My Collection The Most (15 - 11)

Okay, I'm doing my Top 15 directors and Top 30 Actors who appear in my collection the most, both are going to be in 3 segments each.

15 - Jeannot Szwarc (12)

Sczwarc is a surprise name for me on the list because I wouldn't have guessed I would own over 10 titles.

Most Wanted - I'll go with Somewhere In Time.
14 - Roger Corman (12)

If you was just going on producer credits Roger Corman who be one of the most common names in my collection full stop. I respect Roger Corman and particularly the start he gave to many future names.

Most Wanted - I feel like I should own Bucket Of Blood by now, so I'll go with that.
13 - Paul Verhoeven (13)

I have a lot of affection for this man, from the ultra violent to the highly sexed, Verhoeven films are usually at the very least highly enjoyable.

Most Wanted - I just need two of his films now, Black Book and Spetters, the latter of which I'm going for as the most wanted.

12 - Laura Innes (13)

Laura Innes gets on this and this high because of directing television episodes, all 13 titles are episodes of television shows, which include ER (which she was a regular on) and many seasons of the West Wing.

Most Wanted - I will go with the complete series of Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, it had it's weaknesses but it had it moments and it's the best of the bunch remaining.
11 - Richard Donner (14)

Most Wanted - I'll go with The Omen.

Next up is the first ten actors, then after that back to directors.
